{"id":4706,"date":"2024-12-16T14:22:21","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T19:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/library.ca2.uscourts.gov\/wdny-125\/?p=4706"},"modified":"2024-12-16T14:22:35","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T19:22:35","slug":"kate-slocum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.ca2.uscourts.gov\/wdny-125\/court-stories\/written-memories\/kate-slocum\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Slocum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>I\u2019m a relatively new employee so I don\u2019t have a deep well of memories, but this one is a gem.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I was working in my cubicle when I overheard a conversation between two Assistant United States Attorneys in the hallway, one who had just come back from a court appearance.<\/p>\n<p>It went something like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201c\u2026Yeah, he came up to me and said, \u2018you saved my life.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cReally? And you\u2019d prosecuted this guy before?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cYeah, a few years back. That\u2019s where he knew me from.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cDid you remember him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cOh, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cSo, he thanked you, huh?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cShook my hand. Said the trouble he got in back then&#8211;it turned him around. He said I saved his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cWow.
